Guatemala Financial Institutions Net Income Ranking Q1 2026 – Top Banks, Market Leaders and Industry Profitability


Guatemala's financial sector continued to deliver solid profitability as of March 2026, according to RankingsLatAm. The industry generated a combined net income of USD 366 million, equivalent to GTQ 2,809 million, with every one of the 28 institutions included in the analysis reporting positive earnings during the period. The results highlight a market characterized by broad profitability, although a small group of leading institutions continues to account for most of the sector's earnings.

INDUSTRY PROFITABILITY REMAINED STRONG ACROSS ALL PARTICIPANTS

The RankingsLatAm study covered 28 banking and financial institutions operating in Guatemala. All 28 competitors posted net profits, meaning that 100% of the institutions analyzed closed the period with positive earnings.

The sector's combined net income reached USD 366 million (GTQ 2,809 million), reflecting the resilience of Guatemala's banking and financial industry and its ability to generate consistent profitability across virtually the entire competitive landscape.

THE INDUSTRY BENCHMARK TO STAND OUT

The net income benchmark for Guatemala stood at USD 20.3 million. This benchmark is an industry indicator calculated from the performance of all competitors operating in the country and represents the profitability level that institutions should achieve to stand out within the national financial sector.

BANCO DE DESARROLLO RURAL AND BANCO INDUSTRIAL LED THE MARKET

BANCO DE DESARROLLO RURAL, S. A. ranked first in net income with USD 121.8 million, followed by BANCO INDUSTRIAL, S. A. with USD 100.6 million. BANCO G&T CONTINENTAL, S. A. completed the top three with USD 28.2 million.

The leading group was followed by BANCO DE LOS TRABAJADORES, BANCO AGROMERCANTIL DE GUATEMALA, S. A., BANCO PROMERICA, S. A., BANCO DE AMÉRICA CENTRAL, S. A., BANCO INTERNACIONAL, S. A., CITIBANK, N.A., SUCURSAL GUATEMALA, and BANCO AZTECA DE GUATEMALA, S. A., reinforcing the competitive depth of Guatemala's financial system.

MARKET CONCENTRATION REMAINED HIGH

Despite the broad profitability recorded across the industry, earnings remained concentrated among the largest institutions. Together, BANCO DE DESARROLLO RURAL, S. A., BANCO INDUSTRIAL, S. A., and BANCO G&T CONTINENTAL, S. A. generated 68.4% of the total profits earned by the Guatemalan financial sector during the period analyzed.

The figures illustrate a competitive market where all institutions remained profitable, while the largest players continued to dominate industry earnings and set the pace for overall financial performance.
