The Peruvian banking and financial sector maintained solid profitability during the period ending May 2026, with the industry generating a combined net profit of USD 2.277 billion, equivalent to PEN 7.764 billion. The results reflect the performance of 46 financial institutions operating across the country's banking, financial, microfinance, and cooperative segments, highlighting a market where a limited number of large players continue to capture a significant share of total industry earnings.
Strong Industry Profitability
The sector's aggregate net profit of USD 2.277 billion confirms the continued ability of Peru's financial institutions to generate positive earnings despite an increasingly competitive environment. Profitability remains concentrated among the largest institutions, although several medium-sized banks and microfinance entities also reported relevant results during the analyzed period.
Among the 46 institutions included in the study, a significant number of competitors reported positive earnings, reinforcing the overall resilience of Peru's financial system and its capacity to sustain profitability across different business models.
Industry Benchmark for Net Profit
The Net Profit Benchmark for the Peruvian financial industry reached USD 67.0 million during the analyzed period. This benchmark is an industry indicator calculated from the combined performance of all competitors in the country and represents the level of net profit that financial institutions need to achieve in order to stand out within the sector. It provides a useful reference for comparing individual company performance against the overall profitability level of the industry.
Banco de Crédito Maintains a Clear Lead
Banco de Crédito remained the country's most profitable financial institution, reporting a net profit of USD 936 million, consolidating its leadership by a wide margin over the rest of the market.
Banco BBVA Perú ranked second with USD 350 million, while Interbank secured third place after generating USD 220 million in net profit during the period.
The ranking of the country's top-performing institutions was completed by Scotiabank Perú, Mibanco, CMAC Huancayo, Compartamos Banco, CMAC Piura, Banco Interamericano de Finanzas, and Banco Falabella Perú, demonstrating that both commercial banks and specialized microfinance institutions continue to play an important role in Peru's financial landscape.
Profit Concentration Among Market Leaders
The industry's earnings remain highly concentrated. The three most profitable institutions—Banco de Crédito, Banco BBVA Perú, and Interbank—generated a combined 66.1% of the total net profit recorded by the entire Peruvian financial industry during the analyzed period.
This level of concentration underscores the dominant position of the country's largest banking groups, while also illustrating the competitive challenge faced by smaller financial institutions seeking to increase profitability and narrow the gap with the market leaders.
Competitive Landscape
The May 2026 results confirm that Peru's financial sector continues to combine strong profitability with intense competition. While leading banks continue to dominate industry earnings, the presence of financial institutions, municipal savings banks, and specialized lenders among the top performers reflects the diversity of the market and the growing relevance of different business models.
As competition intensifies and institutions continue to focus on efficiency, digital transformation, and customer acquisition, net profitability will remain one of the key indicators used to assess competitive positioning and long-term financial strength across Peru's banking and financial services industry.
