Consumer Credit Market in Latin America

Consumer loans are one of the most widely used financial products in Latin America. During the COVID-19 pandemic credit loans played a vital role as both a source of credit in emergencies and a payment method.

This is the latest edition of our ranking of Latin America’s largest consumer credit companies in 18 different countries. Together, the 1500+ corporations on this year’s list reached USD 465.711 million in consumer credit portfolio. The first 50 largest companies represented in 2021 69.4% of the total portfolio of the 1,500 companies analyzed.

Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Peru are the five largest markets in the region and together represent 80.6% of the Latin American market. Total outstanding consumer credit balances per-capita continued to grow and peaked in 2021 at USD 732. However, there is a strong disparity between markets with averages starting at levels of USD 120 per-capita in some markets and reaching levels close to USD 3,000 in others.
