THE CHILEAN FINANCIAL SECTOR REMAINS HIGHLY CONCENTRATED AMONG ITS LEADING PLAYERS
The research covers 16 financial institutions operating in Chile. Among them, 14 institutions reported total assets exceeding USD 1 billion, representing 88% of all companies included in the study. This illustrates the significant weight of large financial institutions within the Chilean banking system and the relatively limited presence of smaller players.
Combined, the institutions analyzed held total assets of USD 473 billion as of March 2026.
BANCO DE CREDITO E INVERSIONES LEADS THE NATIONAL RANKING BY TOTAL ASSETS
The ranking of Chile's largest financial institutions places BANCO DE CREDITO E INVERSIONES in first position with total assets of USD 95.3 billion. It is followed by BANCO SANTANDER CHILE, with USD 77.7 billion, while BANCO DEL ESTADO DE CHILE ranks third with USD 67.3 billion.
The remainder of the country's top ten is composed of BANCO DE CHILE, ITAU CHILE, SCOTIABANK CHILE, BANCO BICE, BANCO CONSORCIO, BANCO BTG PACTUAL, and BANCO FALABELLA, reflecting a market where established domestic institutions compete alongside major international banking groups.
THE TOP THREE INSTITUTIONS CONTROL MORE THAN HALF OF THE MARKET'S ASSETS
The combined assets of the three largest financial institutions reached USD 240 billion by the end of the reporting period. Together, these market leaders accounted for 50.8% of the country's total financial sector assets.
This level of concentration highlights the dominant role played by Chile's largest banking groups in financial intermediation, lending activity and balance sheet management, while also illustrating the competitive gap separating the market leaders from the rest of the industry.
