Market Expansion Accelerates Toward Year-End

The Brazilian credit card financing market continued to expand strongly in the final quarter of 2025, consolidating its position as one of the most dynamic segments within consumer credit. Total credit card financing reached BRL 735.4 billion in December 2025, up from BRL 666.9 billion in September, reflecting a robust quarterly nominal growth of 10.3%.

This acceleration highlights the sustained demand for revolving credit and installment financing in Brazil, driven by consumption needs, inflationary dynamics, and the structural role of credit cards as a key financing instrument for households.

A Highly Fragmented but Competitive Landscape

As of December 2025, the market comprises 224 institutions with active credit card loan portfolios, underscoring a highly competitive and fragmented ecosystem. Traditional banks, digital banks, fintech players and specialized financial institutions continue to compete for market share, leveraging pricing strategies, digital distribution and customer experience.

Despite the high number of participants, market concentration remains significant among leading players, although recent quarters show increasing competitive pressure from emerging institutions.

Market Leaders by Portfolio

In terms of total credit card loan portfolio—combining revolving balances and installment financing—ITAU remains the market leader with a 21% share as of December 2025. The bank continues to benefit from scale, diversified product offerings, and a strong client base.

NU PAGAMENTOS holds the second position confirming its role as a major disruptor in Brazil’s financial system, particularly among digitally native consumers.

BRADESCO ranks third, maintaining a solid position despite increasing competition from both incumbents and fintech players.

The top ten institutions by portfolio volume are completed by BB, SANTANDER, BCO CSF S.A., MERCADO PAGO, CAIXA ECONÔMICA FEDERAL, PORTO SEGURO, and INTER, reflecting a mix of traditional banking groups, digital platforms, and specialized financial entities.

Structural Trends and Competitive Outlook

The Brazilian credit card financing market continues to evolve under the influence of digitalization, financial inclusion and changing consumer behavior. Fintechs and digital banks are steadily capturing incremental market share, while incumbents respond through innovation and digital transformation.

At the same time, the strong growth observed in 2025 suggests that credit cards will remain a central pillar of consumer financing, particularly in a context where access to alternative credit lines may be more limited.
