Highest year-on-year market share growth ranking
In the latest quarter, several banks in Panama demonstrated impressive growth in their market share within the consumer lending segment. Banco General emerged as the leader, boasting a 0.57% increase in market share, solidifying its position with a 17.3% share of the total consumer loan market as of 2023.Q2. Banisi and Caja de Ahorros followed suit, with growth of 0.19% and 0.18%, respectively, achieving market shares of 2.5% and 9.5%. Banco Davivienda (Panamá) and Credicorp Bank also recorded notable increases in their market share, with 0.17% and 0.12% growth, respectively.
Loan Volume Evolution
Turning our attention to loan volumes, we observe positive growth across different types of consumer loans. The consumer automotive portfolio increased to USD 1824 million in June 2023, up from USD 1798 million in March 2023. Likewise, the personal consumer portfolio witnessed growth, reaching USD 9319 million in June 2023, compared to USD 9206 million in March 2023. The consumer credit card portfolio also experienced a slight uptick, totaling USD 2165 million in June 2023, compared to USD 2147 million in March 2023.
Quarterly variations indicate consistent growth across all three categories, with consumer automotive loans, personal consumer loans, and credit card loans expanding by 1.41%, 1.23%, and 0.83%, respectively, during the last quarter. On an annual basis, consumer automotive loans grew by 3.95%, personal consumer loans by 3.22%, while credit card loans exhibited a slight decline of 1.16%.
Projections for 2025
Looking ahead to 2025, the consumer loans market in Panama is projected to continue its growth. In the most likely scenario, the total loan portfolio is expected to reach USD 14300+ million. In the pessimistic scenario, it may reach USD 13400 million, while the optimistic outlook suggests a potential total portfolio of USD 15700+ million.
